Geographic Information Systems
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a type of software that helps people think spatially and approach problems from a geographic perspective. Spatial data reveals patterns, illustrates problems, and shows connections that are not otherwise evident. It can be used in business, history, environmental science, agriculture, civil engineering, architecture and many other areas of study.
Kennedy Library's GIS program provides GIS software, GIS consultative services, and supports GIS-related events and outreach.

The Kennedy Library Data Services unit is here to provide access and assistance with GIS tools and datasets. Information and training materials are available to support the use of GIS for mapping, analysis, visualization, and problem solving.
Designated GIS/CAD PCs in the Library are equiped with ESRI ArcGIS software. Cal Poly students, staff, and faculty have access the campus GIS file server to obtain datasets and can save their work in progress on the Library’s GIS file server.
